Look to Tengu for the care of your trees. We take a holistic approach to establish, maintain, and shape your trees to harmonize with their environment.
The thing that ultimately makes your tree different from their wild siblings in nature is the fact that we expect every tree we plant to succeed, and your tree must fit with your property. How a tree grows into its environment will determine whether it will be structurally sound, or prone to breakage from weak structure. We intervene on the growth of urban trees because we expect them all to survive through maturity; in the wild it is common for many trees to break and die relatively young. So to prune a tree in the correct way is to give it a helping hand towards longevity . Balancing science and art, it is our mission to help trees flourish within our community.
Dead and damaged wood can be removed from any tree at any time.
Our neighborhood trees share space with us, so it is important to reduce their risk of endangering person and property. Pruning can help reduce their liability, while also improving the health of the tree if done correctly. The healthiest and cheapest way to prune is to selectively remove small amounts (10-15% live wood) every year or two until it is in shape. This way the tree is not stressed, structural problems are nipped in the bud, and it can slowly be trained into its mature form. Think preventative rather then reactive health care. Unfortunately, many trees were not shaped to fit their landscape over time and require more intensive pruning. The difference between a tree being an asset and a liability is often pruning. It is never too soon to start pruning your trees.
When the time comes to remove a dead or problematic tree, choose Tengu. We do not offer stump grinding right now, however, stumps can be a great place to grow mushrooms!
The root zone of plants are an amazing place. It is here that trees anchor themselves in the earth to balance thousands of pounds upright in the wind. A plant's height is directly dependent on the size of its roots. Bonsai (miniature trees in pots) are not created by pruning their shoots as mush as pruning their roots. For this reason it is important to break up the clay and provide new trees with plenty of space for their roots. The root zone is also where the tree finds water and nutrients the plants need for survival -- all while defending against a myriad of bacteria, viruses, fungi and insects.
We provide mushroom infused mulch compost to provide nutrients, structure, and soil "probiotics" to the roots of trees. Our mulches and composts are free of chemicals, and they can continue releasing nutrients for years while mushrooms grow among the landscape. It is fertilizer in its most organic form, as seen in nature.
With years of tree and gardening experience in northern Colorado, we can help you pick out the perfect tree for your space. We then prepare the site for planting by enriching the root zone with physical, chemical, and microbial amendments tailored to each tree species.
